The Instagram API after Basic Display: getting public data in 2026

Meta switched off the Instagram Basic Display API at the end of 2024. What's left is built for managing your own business account, not for reading other people's public posts. Here's what still works.

Basic Display is gone

Meta announced the deprecation on September 4, 2024, and since December 4, 2024 every request to the Instagram Basic Display API returns an error. Apps that showed a personal account's photos, such as website feeds and journaling apps, lost that ability. Meta points developers to the Instagram Graph API instead.

Who's left without an option

Influencer research, brand and competitor monitoring, social listening and AI agents usually need public posts and comments from accounts you don't own, often many of them. The Graph API wasn't built for that, and the 30-hashtag weekly cap rules out most monitoring.

Reading public Instagram data with Vanefeed

Vanefeed's Instagram API reads public Instagram pages for any public account. There's no Meta app, app review or account linking on your side.

EndpointWhat you getPrice
instagram/profileFollowers, following, post count, bio, links, verification, category1 credit
instagram/postsAn account's posts and reels with likes, comments, views and media2 credits per 20
instagram/postOne post or reel by URL1 credit
instagram/commentsComments under a post2 credits per 20
instagram/searchPosts for one hashtag, with no weekly cap3 credits per 20

1,000 posts or comments cost 100 credits, about $0.10–$0.15 on our packs. Failed calls cost nothing.
